National Poetry Month

April is #NationalPoetryMonth, the 25th annual one in fact, and I’ve decided to celebrate with one of the classic tasks I’ve meaning to try for several years: writing a poem a day all month long! You can learn about lots of ways to engage with poetry here: https://poets.org/national-poetry-month

To kick things off on this April 1st morning, I’ve put up a new poem in our street-side poetry post: “On the Back Porch” by Dorianne Laux. I was introduced to this poem by Derek Smith on KMHD’s “The Morning Session”, in one of many quiet, poignant moments over this past year where I was reminded to breathe, that I am not alone, and that the world holds astonishing beauty mixed in with the pain. Today is also the first day of KMHD’s spring membership drive, and if you have had moments like this thanks to their music and community, be sure to send some love their way.
